BUKIDNON LADY CROWNED MS. GK MABUHAY

It was her first time to ride an airplane, sleep in a hotel and eat buffet. With a group of very supportive caretakers, Esperanza Lecera from GK Bukidnon came to Fort Bonifacio and wowed the audience. Like the nine Ms. Mabuhay candidates who came from all over the Philippines, it was her first time to set foot on a stage facing an adoring crowd. They said, they felt important. They felt good about themselves. Their beauty was suddenly revealed to the world.

The revolutionary pageant succeeded in raising the dignity of the poor who before had no opportunities to showcase their talents or let their gifts shine. The organizers of Ms. Mabuhay intended the pageant to showcase the beautiful character of the Filipina women particularly the kapitbahayan (GK residents).

"It was a venue to honor the KB ladies by presenting them as role model for others to see and be inspired," said Lulu Martinez of the GK Mabuhay team.

The newly crowned Ms. Mabuhay believed in the GK values: "Less for self, more for others, enough for all." Esperenza also won Ms. Talent. She, along with fellow winners, runner-up Ms. Elena Castaneda of GK Paradise Heights in Smokey Mountain and Cynthia Dela Cruz of GK Payatas will shine as role models to GK communities.

They were chosen among other criteria not just for their pleasing personality but for their heart and their positive attitude, their active service in the Mabuhay program as well as for being good role models to their families and community.

The annual pageant was graced and judged by former Philippine Tourism Secretary Antonio Gonzalez, actor Akijiro Sato and Bb. Pilipinas 2006 Lian Ramos. They also conducted pre-pageant interviews with the candidates.
Special awards were given to: Myrna Jane Malabanan of GK Quirino (Ms. Friendship), Imelda Jumawan of GK Davao (Best in Evening Gown), Medelyn Austria of GK Pinagsama and Esperanza Lecera (Best in Sportswear). The newly crowned Ms. Mabuhay also received the Texter's Choice award.
